A yoga wheel is a piece of yoga equipment used to help with a number of different asanas and yoga-inspired exercises. The first types of yoga wheels, known as the Dharma Yoga Wheels, were created by Sri Dharma Mittra and his son, Yoga Varuna.
Yoga wheels can be used for stretching and releasing the muscles of the back, neck and shoulders, as well as the deep hip flexors. They may also be used for challenging balance postures.
They are used to make stretches deeper and more intense, and used to make difficult arm balances or backbends more accessible. The key benefits are said to be in releasing tension and building flexibility. They can also improve balance, proprioception and core strength.
